Attic Sounds at Night

Laying on a mattress on the floor

High up in the dusty attic

The sound of the whipping wind

Just outside of the window

Alternating semi-melodic pitches

And dynamics up and down

Like an ominous ghost singing

In an abandoned opera hall

Howling and whistling as if to me…

Relentlessly playing its violent music

While I close and re-open my eyes

Close and re-open my eyes

Over and again

Fearing some malignant spirit

Might be drawn into the room

Partially awake and partially asleep

Not completely certain

What is reality and what is perception

And what is an overly taxed imagination

Sleep deprived and running away with

The music of the  whipping wind
