Are Your Posts Complete When You Finish Writing?

It never ceases to surprise me that I cannot correctly predict which of my posts will be more or less popular with the readers.

I can post 4 or 5 different things in the course of a day, and when I look at my WordPress stats page, the one I really expected a lot of likes on gets 1, while the one that I jotted down off the top of my head ( yes. like this one💕) ….and I thought nothing of ….will get 40 likes.

When you are blogging, it is not always the posts that you researched for, the ones that you edited 3 times, or the ones that took you the longest to write…that people enjoy tbe most.

No matter how long you have been blogging, or how good your writing is, you can never really predict how your readers will respond, or what will draw new readers.

It is part the fun of blogging …..the unpredictability….and waiting and watching to see what will happen with the words you spilled upon the page…..or painfully bled upon the page….

So intersecting. Do you find this to be true for you?

Let me know what you think, and how you feel about the surprise when something you did not think much about gets many more likes and comments than you ever would have anticipated.

Blogging is a dance between the writer and the reader. You never can be sure what will catch people’ s interest and attention. Anything that people can really relate to tends to draw comments. But you never can know if the readers of the day will relate to what you are thinking about and feeling. 

Sometimes you just stream thoughts or feelings and they seem to connect right to other people’s feelings, thoughts or imagination.

The post I wrote about having a reader from Malta was so popular and I was pleasantly surprised. Everyone jumped in and wanted to tell me where they were reading my blog from.

It was quite fun as everyone shared their part of the world or part of their country. I never would have anticipated that. The comments made the post more interesting.

Sometimes as the readers get involved, and add thoughts and feelings and experiences, to the comments, it is like the writing itself is continuing without you…..like you began the post and your readers and continuing it.

In this way, if you think about it, the posts you write are never really done….until the readers make them bloom and blossom into something more. 💕

    1. I know right? I have had some pieces that I spent a long time on that did ok…then ones I thought were so so everyone responded to. So funny.
      Maybe our “taste” as you mentioned, in our own poetry, or other writings, is biased. It is hard to see your work objectively.

    1. Welcome to the blogging community. Yes it is a great venue for venting your thoughts and feelings.

      The best way I have found to get followers and readers is to read other blogs and click Like on their posts. You can search the tags for a category similar to what your latest post is on.

      If my newest post is about depression, then I search that tag, read 7 to 10 blogs and usually 1 or 2 will come ove4 to read mine.

      If I posted a poem last, then I search the tags for poetry similar to the theme in mine….like dark poetry…or funny poetry…then , like before, I read 7 to 10 blogs, click Like and see if someone comes over to read. They often do.

  5. Oh, certainly I can relate. There have been posts that I thought for sure would resonate only to find out they were “duds”. Through my experiences though, the posts that truly come from the heart are the best received by the reader.

    1. Thank you for sharing that. 💙 Yes it does seem like posts that come from the heart do the best.
      When I was first blogging last year, I was trying to write sometimes like I was writing a research paper for school.
      Those kinds of posts did not have the personal touch. So I learned that researched posts are ok, as long as you also speak from the heart intermittently , throughout.

  6. I am with Cara on the pacing issue. I write a lot and have electronic and handwritten notes. I don’t publish everything I write on my blog because many things are a work in progress. I trash things that seem great today but awful tomorrow. Sometimes, I think something won’t be understood because it is too heavy but readers understand the meaning. Eventually, everyone’s blogging experience is different. Because it is personal, everyone’s recipe for success is going to be different. Best wishes. xo

    1. Yes I see what you mean. Keep in mind that the famous writers have editors, who make alterations and suggestions. And the editors are not always right either.

      To me writing is like art combined with philosophy and psychology. It is ever changing and your writing is affected by your personal experiences and things you learn and discover.

      You might write about something different next year. Your style may change or blossom .

      You can get someone’s opinion or have them edit something if you want to. They may or not have good ideas.

  7. Thank you your post has really resonated with me. If it was down to stats alone I would have quitted writing posts as I never get any likes to talk about. Thank God that I blog because I love writing even if I have not yet perfected the art of writing. Your post has boosted my confidence to continue writing stats or no stats!     1. I am glad it was helpful. I am not sure that anyone ever has the experience that they have “perfected” the art of writing.

      The most famous, published writers in the world have editors go over their work to check for errors. I never think in terms of perfection.

      Writing is more subjective to me….like art. Some people will like what you write and others wont.

      It is not worth worrying about pleasing everyone, because it can’t happen. Just write the way it pleases you.
